Meet the Dentists
Dr. David Civils is a native of North Carolina. He grew up at the NC coast in Morehead City. He received is Bachelor of Science in Biology and Minor in Chemistry from Elon University. After graduating from Elon, Dr. Civils worked at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry. He studied the relationship between dentistry and systemic health problems such as diabetes, arterioscleroses, and pre-term labor.
Dr. David Civils received his Doctorate in Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry and joined the practice of Dr. Stephen Hyman in 2002.
Dr. Janna Civils is a native of North Carolina growing up in Lincolnton, where she comes from a family of four dentists. She received her high school diploma from the North Carolina School of Science and Math. She received her Bachelor of Science with Honors in Psychology and Minor in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Following graduation Dr.
Civils worked at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry studying the relationships with chronic pain and tempromandibular joint
(TMJ) dysfunction.
In 2001, Dr. Janna Civils received her Doctorate in Dental Surgery with Honors from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry and joined her father in practice. In 2002 she assumed the position of Director of Dentistry at Moses Cone HealthServe Medical Clinics. She subsequently served as a member of the clinical faculty at Guilford Technical Community College.
She joined her husband Dr. David Civils upon Dr. Stephen Hyman's retirement in 2004.
Together, they have two young sons named John David and Pearson. Also, they have a Yorkshire terrier named Mattie. They met before dental school while doing research and were married during David's senior year of dental school.
They enjoy traveling, bike riding, and sports. As a young family Greensboro has provided an excellent resource. They are involved, interested, and continue to grow in this warm community.
